Mechanical Engineering students’ motorcycle project outshines at 1st ECE-2022

The 1st Engineering Capstone Expo-2022 was conducted on September 19, 2022, at Faletti’s Hotel, Lahore with the aim of enhancing the quality of education and competency among young engineering graduates. The event that was arranged by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) was also intended to allow engineering students to showcase their final year projects (FYP) and to strengthen the industry-academia linkages.

Two final year students of Bs. Mechanical Engineering, Mr. Muhammad Usman Butt and Mr. Muhammad Usama Waheed participated in this expo and exhibited their project titled “Development of Electric Motorcycle”. The project remained a center of attention throughout the event for a large number of passionate visitors including media personnel. The bike was tested and verified by the visitors in capabilities or specifications of the project.

The students’ projects were highly appreciated by different evaluators in terms of knowledge application, creativity, and the skills demonstrated. Moreover, the students were advised to secure funding to initiate the commercialization of said project after several enhancements. Dr. Muhammad Amir Khan (HoD, Mechanical Engineering) supervised this project. “I am proud of our two students for making it to that national level competition and I will continue to offer the necessary guidance to them so that their innovation moves to another level.” Dr. Khan said.

A total of 45 universities from all around Pakistan participated in the expo. Engineer Najee Haroon (Chairman, PEC), Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan (Vice Chairman, PEC), Ms. Sania Kamran (MPA), Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir (Chairman, Pakistan Higher Education Commission), Mr. Wasif Arshad Bhatti (Deputy Registrar), vice chancellors of various universities and a large number of students attended the expo.
