The Mechanical Engineering Society (MES) at the University of Lahore (UOL) actively participated in the recently organised “Fresher’s Week 2022.” This week-long festivity usually takes place at the beginning of the academic year. It is a week full of events and activities organised by the university to help new students socialize and familiarise themselves with their new surroundings. The freshmen week at UOL also provided the new students with the opportunity to join the clubs and societies at UOL.

The freshmen week was held under the direction and support of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), which provided monitoring, support, and funds for the event. This colourful event enhanced the students’ campus life experience. It was a source of fun and enjoyment that fuelled students’ energy in a positive manner at the university.

The MES members planned and implemented their theme for the stall at the event, which was based on the exquisite display of the projects. The stall was visited by students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. Students expressed interest in the projects on display and the society’s future activities. The MES office bearers and core body members ensured that the plans were in place, the logistics were managed, and the stall was constructed, staffed, and presented to the students. Mr Waleed Bin Nasir (President), Mr Muhammad Usama Shahid (General Secretary), Mr Abdul Hanan (Treasurer), and Mr Muhammad Rizwan (Member) of MES were exemplary and of high standards in their efforts.

Fostering communication and interactive conversations amongst students, different games were also placed and played with the interested participants. It was an opportunity to meet new people, welcome the freshmen, and above all, have fun.

To celebrate the successful conduct of MES activities, a celebratory dinner ceremony was planned. The office bearers and members of MES got together over an informal dinner at Savor Foods, Lahore, on November 2, 2022. The dinner was attended by around 16 members who were active in Fresher Week and those who wanted to associate with future activities of MES. The positive aspects of the activity were highlighted, along with the need to develop management, leadership, and communication skills so that MES members can better serve society. The alumni office bearer of MES, Mr Hunbal Raza, also attended the dinner and motivated the students through his experiences and conversation. A strong collective body of individuals emerged from this activity, which will continue to plan positive activities for the welfare of Mechanical Engineering Department students.
