A milestone in modern engineering education

University of Lahore (UOL) is immensely pleased to announce that its Department of Mechanical Engineering (MED) was recently granted accreditation on Level II under Outcome Based Education (OBE)/ Washington Accord by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). The accreditation comes following a complete evaluation by the PEC accreditation team during their recent visit to the campus.

The visit aimed at assessing the undergraduate programme and granting accreditation to the Batch 2019. The PEC, being the regulatory body overseeing engineering licenses in Pakistan, plays a key role in ensuring the quality of education in the field of engineering.

The PEC delegation was warmly welcomed by the senior management and faculty of the MED. A detailed presentation about the department’s vision, mission, plans, resources, and activities, was delivered by Prof Dr Muhammad Kaleem Ullah (Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology). The PEC team conducted a thorough departmental visit, scrutinising various aspects, including infrastructure, laboratories, classrooms, faculty offices, sports facilities, cafeterias, and bookshops.

A significant part of the assessment focused on the Outcome Based Education (OBE) approach. The PEC team checked the department’s activities such as class schedules and paperwork, and matched them with OBE criteria. They interacted with teachers, staff, students, alums, and industry partners to get a complete picture of how well the department is performing.

The PEC team lead commended the faculty’s performance and expressed satisfaction with the department’s continuous improvement. The meetings were conducted pleasantly and professionally, promoting a positive atmosphere for collaboration.

Following the visit, the PEC officially conveyed its satisfaction with the MED’s performance by granting Washington Accord Level II Accreditation for the batches 2019-20. This accreditation, valid for two years, reflects the department’s commitment to providing high-quality engineering education and experiences to its students.
